Private equity investors Advent has invested in Manjushree Technopack Ltd., India’s largest rigid plastic packaging solution provider, in partnership with the founding Kedia family. As part of the transaction, Advent purchased all the shares owned by Kedaara Capital and a portion of the Kedia family’s stake in Manjushree Technopack.

On October 11, the Sidel Group concluded the acquisition of PET Engineering Srl, further expanding the company’s portfolio of packaging solutions. PET Engineering is expected to help Sidel expand its packaging offering – especially regarding the design of containers for water, soft drinks, liquid dairy products and beer.

Krones has completed the acquisition of W.M. Sprinkman Corporation, Wisconsin, U.S. Founded in 1929, Sprinkman provides engineered food and beverage processing equipment, specialising in the dairy and brewing industries. Employing over 125 employees at its Waukesha and Elroy, Wisconsin locations, the company serves customers ranging from start-up microbreweries to large multi-national food and beverage producers. Sprinkman generates approximately $35 millions in revenues.

Döhler Group and Passina Group have reached an agreement on the acquisition of Concentra Europe BV with its Dutch and German subsidiaries by Döhler Group. The proposed transaction has now been filed with the relevant antitrust authorities and is conditional upon their approval.

Amcor, a global leader in high-quality flexible packaging solutions, has announced plans to invest more than $25 million to upgrade its Madison facilities starting in 2018 and into 2019 to expand capacity, improve quality and reduce waste while updating technology.

According to a newspaper article in the Rhein Neckar Zeitung (RNZ), the recycling machinery manufacturer Herbold Meckesheim, Germany, has been hit by a fire that broke out on the site on Monday night, September 10. Werner Herbold, one of the two managing directors, estimated the damage at five to ten million euros, reports the RNZ.

Universal Dynamics, Inc., a company of the Piovan Group, completed its move from Woodbridge to Fredericksburg Virginia, USA in July of 2018. The newly outfitted structure, which occupies 110,000 square feet (10,000 square meters), was designed with lean manufacturing practices in mind, and will allow the company to double its production capacity.

In July 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) awarded GEA a letter of no objection (LONO) for its ABF 1.2 technology, an integrated blowing, filling and capping solution featuring a fully aseptic rotary blowing machine. It is the only system equipped with a 100% aseptic blower that is allowed to produce shelf-stable low acid (LA) beverages free from preservatives for distribution at ambient temperature in the U.S. market.

Lorien Engineering Solutions, a division of GP Strategies, is working with soft drinks provider Britvic to help install new state-of-the-art production lines at Britvic, the largest supplier of branded still soft drinks in Great Britain and the number two supplier of branded carbonated soft drinks in GB. Britvic’s Leeds and Rugby factories have been developed to provide new PET bottling facilities, with new bottling lines introduced at both sites.

PTT Global Chemical PLC (GC) and together with TOC Glycol Co., Ltd. (TOCGC), a subsidiary of GC Group, announced to sign joint venture agreements with Mitsui Chemicals Inc.(MCI), to cooperate in managing Siam Mitsui PTA Co., Ltd. (SMPC), a PTA producer, and Thai PET Resin Co., Ltd. (TPRC), a PET producer. GC and TOCGC will hold 74% of the shares in SMPC and TPRC, while Mitsui Chemicals will hold 26%.

Pretium Packaging, a leading North American manufacturer of plastic containers and closures, has acquired Cox Container, LLC, located in Troy, Alabama. Cox specialises in extrusion blow moulding of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers for food, beverage, dairy and industrial applications.

Following several acquisitions and steep organic growth in recent years, Kiefel GmbH, the Germany-based specialist for plastic film material processing machines, is announcing organisational changes in its packaging activities. Aim is, to ensure a strong customer focus in the rigid plastic packaging market and to take full advantage of upcoming market opportunities.

Neo Group, producer of PET granules, located in Klaipeda Free Economic Zone (FEZ) in Lithuania, launches a new production line. The additional capacity of the new line is planned to reach 480.000t/a, intended to strengthen the company's position in foreign markets and to become the second-largest company of this kind across Europe. It is estimated that the market supply will grow by 155,000t of products annually.

In an effort to expand its ISBM/IBM (injection stretch blow mould/injection blow mould) business into Latin America, R&D/Leverage aligned itself with with Btomec in Brazil. The partnership follows the recent announcement of the partnership with Artis Matris to support the needs and demands for their preform moulds in South America. Btomec Tool and Precision Machining specialises in the manufacturing of moulds fue caps and closures, dual & tri components, medical devices, oral care, thin wall and optical transmission for over 33 years in the Brazilian market.

On July 2, Michael Heyde joined the Austrian packaging producer Alpla as head of recycling technology. The 58-year-old specialist in recycling and the circular economy will focus on the expansion of recycling capacities. Heyde is a recognised expert in the development of new areas of application for post-consumer recycled plastics. He has extensive experience acting as an interface between the waste management industry and the packaging industry.

In May 2018, the Claranor Pulsed Light Packaging Sterilization was awarded as "Efficient solution" by the SI foundation, with the #1000 efficient solution label. The award is said to recognise Claranor's contribution to build a cleaner world.

W. Amsler Equipment Inc., a leading supplier of all-electric linear PET stretch blow moulders, has announced plans to relocate its headquarters and manufacturing operations to Bolton, Ontario, Canada later this summer. The new location – designed to meet the expanded demands of the company’s growing PET blow moulding machine business - will be in the heart of the “Plastics Corridor,” less than 20km from the Pearson (Toronto) Airport in Rexdale. The Bolton area is also home to suppliers such as Husky Injection Molding Systems, Athena Automation, and many blow moulding companies.

Engel is establishing a decentralised network of mould experts in its sales regions. Around the world, demand for integrated system solutions from a single source is rising. Alongside automation and other peripherals, the mould is part of the overall set-up in more and more cases.

Alpla, the Austrian packaging solutions specialist, and Fromm (Switzerland) have agreed on a collaboration in relation to PET recycling. Both companies operate recycling plants for PET bottles, thus ensuring the necessary supply of materials for their own production facilities. The goal of the collaboration is the further optimisation of the recycling rates for PET as well as a significant reduction in CO2 emissions through saved transport. Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, and Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd. (Tiangang), today conducted a groundbreaking ceremony in Cangzhou (China),just over 200km south of Beijing. The ceremony marked the start of the construction of a worldclass production facility for stabilisers for plastics and textiles that will form the heart of the joint venture between both parties. Two comprehensive end-of-lines for production of shampoo and conditioner in shaped bottles have been successfully implemented by Gebo Cermex at Unilever’s site in Dubai, which is the largest personal care factory in the Middle East and Africa.

Arca Continental, one of the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottlers, announced that it will build a new production and distribution facility in Houston, Texas, through its subsidiary Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages (CCSWB). After a little over a year of becoming the first Latin American bottler to operate in the U.S. Coca-Cola system, the Monterrey, Mexico-based company announced that it will invest US$250 million in a facility close to 1 million square feet in size. This will be the first Coca-Cola production plant built in the U.S. in a decade.

United Caps, an international manufacturer of caps and closures, announced it has acquired the Spanish closure manufacturer Embalatap. The acquisition acts to extend the United Caps product portfolio, especially as it relates to closures for edible oils typically used in the Southern European market. United Caps welcomes all Embalatap employees to the United Caps family and will maintain the existing manufacturing location.

In order to meet the growing demand, Wintec is enlarging its production plant in Changzhou, China. "The production area will be more than doubled, and by the end of 2019 the number of employees in production alone will increase by 60 percent", reports Michael Feltes, President Sales and Service of Wintec, at the beginning of the Chinaplas plastics trade fair, end of April in Shanghai, China. Construction work is expected to commence in the autumn of this year. The plan is to already use the additional area by the fourth quarter of the coming year. Altogether, Wintec is investing more than 10 million euro into the first big expansion of the site since the company was established four years ago.

The 2017 Financial Statement for Sacmi Imola shows higher sales and an increased gross operating margin with respect to 2016. Like its parent company, the Group as a whole closed the year by improving on the previous year’s performance, with sales touching 1.434 billion euro; the net consolidated result was over 35 million, also on the rise compared to 2016.

The Austrian Starlinger Group takes over the business unit Barmag Spinnzwirn based in Chemnitz (Germany) from Oerlikon. The integration of the related technologies for spinning lines for the production of tapes, monofilaments, yarns, and twisted yarns as well as texturing machines into the existing product portfolio holds significant potential for synergy effects in service, engineering, and sales.

Alpla, Inc., a global manufacturer of rigid plastic packaging for a wide range of consumer products, announced that it will build a new plant with at least 50 jobs by the time it reaches full production in April 2019. The plant, located adjacent to the Dayton International Airport in Park 70/75 represents a $21 million investment in 154,000 square feet of an existing building which will serve current and new customers within Alpla’s growing list of US locations.

By purchasing the remaining shares, Krones has taken over Till GmbH in its entirety. Under the name of Dekron, the group’s subsidiary is now synergising the entire technology portfolio for digital decoration technology. The Krones product portfolio themed around digital decoration of containers had previously been split between two companies: firstly, Krones AG itself, and secondly Till GmbH, in which Krones had owned a majority shareholding of 51 per cent since 2014.

CarbonLite Holdings LLC has announced that PET bottle-to-bottle recycling company CarbonLite will build a new plant, to be located in the state of Pennsylvania. This facility will enable the company to increase the number of post-consumer PET beverage bottles it recycles annually by 50 percent – to more than 6 billion. The new $60 million plant is scheduled for startup in late 2019.

Bühler successfully closed the sale of 80% of the Polymetrix shares to Sanlian Hope as per March 22, 2018. The Bühler Group remains a minority shareholder with 20% of the Polymetrix shares.

Petainer, manufacturer of one-way PET kegs, is partnering with Blue PET in Brazil to start manufacturing petainerKeg - its global family of keg products which are increasingly being used by breweries for draught beer. Blue PET, which specialises in producing bulk volume PET containers such as 5USG refillable bulk water packaging, will begin manufacturing at its new plant in Tijucas, Santa Catarina, in the South of Brazil in early June 2018. The blow moulding plant will serve the domestic market as well becoming the manufacturing hub for the South American region serving emerging markets in Argentina, Uruguay and others.

The Erema Group closed the 2017/18 fiscal year at the end of March with double-digit growth of over 10 per cent. The companies integrated in the Group have once again achieved a new turnover record with consolidated sales reaching 155 million euros for the first time.

Mould & Matic Solutions GmbH, a specialist in tool and plant engineering for the packaging industry, is keeping abreast with the global success of the Kiefel Group and on May 2, 2018, launched the expansion of the site in Micheldorf. Completion is scheduled for May 2019.

Husky Injection Molding Systems announced organisational changes to proactively realign its business to support customers in response to evolving market trends and changing consumer demands. Husky has taken the step of combining its Beverage Packaging business and Specialty Packaging business under one new consolidated business called Rigid Packaging. This change will allow the company to offer a wider range of solutions and services to both Consumer Packaged Goods brands and plastics processors.

Amcor has announced the expansion of its injection blow molding (IBM) and extrusion blow molding (EBM) capabilities for the production of healthcare, food and home and personal care packaging. The company has invested in the Jet series all-electric IBM platform from Meccanoplastica Group, Florence, Italy and the KBB series all-electric EBM platform from Kautex Maschinenbau, Bonn, Germany.

Sukano has been awarded a silver medal for its sustainability practices by EcoVadis in its first-ever evaluation. In three out of four categories – Labor Practices, Fair Business Practices and Sustainable Procurement – Sukano ranked well above the average of its industry peers, scoring in the top 15%.

Platinum Equity announced the successful closing of their previously announced acquisition of Husky Injection Molding Systems (IMS) International Ltd. Based in Bolton, Ontario, Husky is a global supplier of highly engineered injection moulding equipment and services for the plastic injection moulding equipment industry, and a leading provider of PET systems, hot runners, aftermarket tooling, medical moulds, and specialty closure moulds.

Corpus Christi Polymers LLC (“CC Polymers”) - a newly formed joint venture between Alpek, S.A.B. de C.V. (“Alpek”), Indorama Ventures Holdings LP (“Indorama”) a subsidiary of Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, and Far Eastern Investment (Holding) Ltd. (“Far Eastern”) - has entered into an asset purchase agreement with M&G USA Corp. and its affiliated debtors (“M&G”). CC Polymers will acquire the integrated PTA-PET plant currently under construction in Corpus Christi, Texas, certain M&G intellectual property, and a desalination/boiler plant providing water and steam needs to the Corpus Christi Project. The purchase agreement provides M&G with a binding bid of $1.125 billion in cash and other capital contributions.

Commitment to sustainable packaging - Waste Free Oceans has announced a new partnership with Henkel to remove plastic waste from oceans and rivers – and transform it into over a million bottles used for the Lovables laundry brand. The collaboration is the largest that WFO has agreed so far and will run for at least three years. Together, the partners aim to remove enough plastic from rivers, lakes, seas and oceans to produce 100 tonnes of usable recycled material each year.

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL), a global chemical producer, has announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire M&G Polimeros Brazil S.A. in Ipojuca Brazil. The plant is the largest PET facility in Brazil, with capacity of 550,000t/a. This plant is strategically located and benefits from virtual integration with a manufacturer of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), a key feedstock to PET. The transaction is expected to be completed in second quarter 2018, subject to regulatory approvals.

Company continues to invest in services in the Americas, adding PET preform solutions Tech-Long Americas, one of the world’s largest suppliers of PET stretch blow moulding machines and beverage packaging lines announces its partnership with Unique Injection Molding Systems, Ltd. The addition of injection moulding to Tech-Long’s product line portfolio offers customers a complete turnkey solution – from the making of PET preforms, through to complete liquid filling packaging lines.

Petcore Europe has created the new Plastic Aerosol Recycling Special Industry Group (SiG) in order to anticipate the need to recycle higher amounts of plastic aerosols. This industry task force is therefore looking for ways to increase the recycling volumes of PET products from the household packaging waste stream.

Sesotec, developer and manufacturer of contaminant detectors and sorting systems, reports a change in its corporate management team. Xaver Auer, who joined Sesotec in 2011 in the course of a change of ownership and as CEO is in charge of strategy, sales, and subsidiaries, will leave the company at his own request at the end of February. As his successor Marc Setzen could be won.

Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, acknowledges the investment by chemical industry peer and partner Sabic, which has acquired a 24.99% stake in Clariant. The acquisition of these stakes, which were previously held by White Tale and 40 North, makes Sabic the largest Clariant shareholder.

GEA completed the acquisition of Vipoll, headquartered in Križevci pri Ljutomeru, Slovenia, which was signed in November 2017. With the acquisition, GEA has added to its group a manufacturer of filling technologies for soft drinks, beer and fresh milk products into glass bottles and cans, as well as PET bottles.

Ettlinger announced today that they have been acquired by the Swiss Company Maag, a business unit of Dover Corporation. Ettlinger Kunststoffmaschinen GmbH was founded in 1983 and is today a globally recognised brand. The German company has its headquarters in Königsbrunn, near Augsburg and an American sales and service subsidiary in Atlanta, Georgia. Its core expertise is the development and manufacture of high performance continuous melt filters and injection moulding machines.

Nestlé Waters NA has identified Centre County as a potential location for its third Pennsylvania bottling facility. The Centre County region is currently a leading candidate for a proposed $50 million bottling facility that would create an estimated 50 manufacturing jobs. Nestlé Waters’ search for a new factory location is driven by growing consumer demand for bottled water, which in 2017 surpassed soda as the most popular beverage in the United States. As part of the company’s regional spring water model, the proposed factory would bottle Deer Park 100% Natural Spring Water for distribution to customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

Platinum Equity announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Husky Injection Molding Systems from Berkshire Partners and OMERS Private Equity for $3.85 billion. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2018.

PET packaging company Petainer has appointed three new distributors in Europe, expanding its footprint in the region. The new distributors are Ice Techic in Bulgaria, BrewTec Europe in France and Scangothia in Sweden.

After 13 very successful years as Board Member of MHT Mold & Hotrunner Technology AG, Christoph Kückels will leave the company on November 30, 2017, to tackle new challenges elsewhere. Starting December 1, 2017, Christian Wagner, currently serving on the Executive Board specialising in Technology and Distribution, will lead the corporate group as CEO.

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL), a global chemical producer, will acquire the assets of Artlant PTA, S.A.’s (Artlant), including all equipment, surface rights and employment contracts. Artlant, a Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant in the Sines Industrial Complex in Portugal is a large PTA producer in Europe with a production capacity of 700,000 tonnes per annum.

At this year's edition of the "dynamic days" held October 23-24, 2017 in Weissenbach, Lower Austria, Starlinger inaugurated the new headquarters of its division recycling technology. The building is located in close proximity to the existing Starlinger factory.

Beijing Sanlian Hope Shin-Gosen Technical Service Co. has acquired 80% of the Polymetrix shares from the Bühler Group. The Bühler Group will remain a minority shareholder with 20% of the shares of Polymetrix. Closing is expected for the beginning of 2018.

Maag, a worldwide-leading manufacturer of gear pumps, pelletising systems, filtration systems and pulverisers for use in the plastics, chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, announced the opening of two new facilities in the Jiading District of Shanghai and in the city of Guangzhou that will serve the Chinese market.

On 1 November 2017, Otto Hofstetter AG, the manufacturer of moulds for PET preforms and the packaging industry, opened a branch office in Luxembourg. With this new office, the family-owned company from Uznach, Switzerland, is expanding its international presence and increasing its proximity to its customers in the EU.

Alpha Packaging Inc. announced that it has acquired a plant in Etten-Leur, the Netherlands, from Graham Packaging Company. The transaction – for which terms were not disclosed – was completed on November 2nd. Alpha, with headquater in St. Louis, Missouri USA, is a blow moulder of bottles and jars for the growing consumer markets, including the nutrition, pharmaceutical, personal care and niche food and beverage categories.

Gebo Cermex, part of the Sidel Group, has recently signed a supply agreement with Kuka AG. The contract was finalised in Munich at Drinktec 2017. Putting pen to paper for the agreement, were signatories Mr. Marc Aury, President and Managing Director of Gebo Cermex and Mr. Joachim Melis, VP Division Consumer Industries & Handling of Kuka, representing the German manufacturer.

Constantia Flexibles has successfully completed the sale of its Labels division to Multi-Color Corporation for an enterprise value of approximately €1.15 billion ($1.3 billion). All required regulatory authorities have cleared the transaction. Constantia Flexibles has received approximately €830 million in cash and will continue to participate in the future success story of Multi-Color through a 16.6% shareholding.

SGT, which manufactures polyethylene terephthalate (PET) preforms, officially confirmed the construction of its new production site at the Saôneor business park to the north of Chalon-sur-Saône, during a signature ceremony attended by local elected representatives and dignitaries. Sébastien Martin, President of the Grand Chalon region, Jean-Jacques Boyer, Sub-Prefect of Chalon, Guillaume Thiébaut, Mayor of Virey-le-Grand and Alain Gaudray, Mayor of Fragnes-La Loyère.

Nestlé Waters has announced that it will strengthen its collaboration with the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) to certify 20 factories by 2020. Nestlé Waters has already certified four bottling facilities in Sheikhupura, Pakistan, and in California (Ontario, Sacramento and Livermore). It plans to certify additional sites in Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.

One year after moving into the premises in Regensburg’s TechBase and successful completion of its first projects, Krones AG’s Innovation Lab was officially inaugurated in October 2017. The TechBase is located directly next to the university and the East Bavarian University of Applied Science (OTH), and offers space for start-ups, research labs and technology clusters. The Bühler Group owns again 100% of the shares of Polymetrix after buying back all shares held by Cross Equity Partners in July 2017. The buy-back of the Polymetrix shares is the first step on the path to the new strategic ownership of Polymetrix AG. In a second step, the majority stake of the company will be sold to an engineering group active in the polymer industry.

Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, and Erema Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen GmbH, Ansfelden, Austria, have agreed to collaborate in the field of PET plastic recycling. The aim of this alliance is to incorporate the technical expertise of both companies into the planning and design of PET recycling lines and complete factories, so as to be able to offer clients from both the beverage and PET recycling industries an optimal line or an entire factory.

Movacolor, developer and manufacturer of high quality dosing systems for the plastics industry, is going to build a new building in its current location Sneek, The Netherlands. It is expected that the international company will move to the fully energy-neutral building in the third quarter of 2018. The 100% sustainable building will include solar panels, top cooling in the entire building, underfloor heating and heat pumps. Of course, charging stations for electric cars are provided.

With the founding of the Powerfil business unit, Erema, the manufacturer of plastics recycling systems, extends its portfolio and now also offers the proven melt filter as individual components for existing extrusion plants. Technical modifications were made to the filter systems prior to the foundation of the business unit.

Sesotec GmbH, a manufacturer of machines and systems for contaminant detection and material sorting for the food, plastics, and recycling industries, is growing in all segments, which correspondingly need more room. Early in July 2017 service acceptance at the company headquarters in German Schönberg therefore was relocated from Regener Straße 130 to Industriestraße 5. The new location lies close to the company headquarters and combines repairs department, spare parts storage, training rooms, technical support, and – now new – service acceptance.

Boxmore Packaging, with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, will become a fully owned subsidiary of the Austrian packaging specialist Alpla. Boxmore Packaging is specialised in PET preforms, PET bottles and closures, and currently employs around 1,000 members of staff at nine locations.

The Austrian company Next Generation Recyclingmaschinen GmbH (NGR) develops and manufactures plastics recycling equipment for industrial and consumer waste. As part of the reopening of the three year-old Customer Care Center in Taicang, NGR is expanding its sales activities in China and Southeast Asia.

Alpla, a global provider of plastic packaging, has acquired a 100 per cent stake in the Italian company Propack Srl. The company, based in Ostellato (FE), is specialised in the production of HDPE and PET bottles for home-care. The agreement has been signed in mid June. The deal is expected to be concluded by the middle of July 2017. With this acquisition, the eighth plant in the country, Alpla has expanded its production capacities in the North-East of Italy.

The KHS Group has ratified its successful development of the previous year and again boosted its turnover, with sales totaling €1.18 billion last year. Its operating profit (EBT) rose thanks to contributions from internal improvement programs to this end. Especially successful projects in Asia and Central America and a heavy demand for PET and can filling systems helped to promote sales. In the current business year the Group wishes to score further with innovations at the leading international drinktec trade show.

Petainer has launched a stand-alone business in Brazil as part of its growth strategy for the Latin American region. Petainer is targeting the rapidly growing craft brewing sector in Brazil and large regional brewers with its one-way PET kegs. Brazil is the third largest beer market in the world behind China and the US and, despite the economic crisis, craft beer sales are growing by 40% a year.

PolyOne Corporation, a provider of specialised polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced two internal executive appointments. Mark Crist will serve as president of Color, Additives & Inks, and J. Scott Horn, Jr. will become president of PolyOne Distribution (POD), effective July 3, 2017. Mr. Crist replaces John Van Hulle, who is retiring from PolyOne.

Bruce Margetts, the Managing Director of Bericap in the UK, was elected as president of the British Plastics Federation (BPF) in succession to David Hall at the BPF’s AGM held on 25 May. Margetts was born in 1966 and was educated at the University of Durham, where he took a BSc degree in Physics and Electronics and, later, an MBA.

Greiner Packaging is establishing a joint venture with the Russian company Plastic System which serves the market under the Souzpromplast brand. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. ( “SHI”) and its subsidiary Izumi Food Machinery Co., Ltd. have established a beverage machinery related joint venture company with Germany-based Krones AG to develop the Asia region. Through the establishment of this joint venture company, SHI Group aims to capitalise on the know-how and supply chain of Krones and accelerate the development of its beverage machinery business in the Asia region.

Amcor Rigid Plastics expands its relationship with long-time customer Campbell Soup Co. with the opening of an on-site bottle manufacturing operation in Paris, Texas, USA. Amcor’s new in-line operation is expected to produce approximately 50 million hot-fillable PET bottles each year.

Aimplas inaugurated on March 23 its new R&D building where new bioplastics, nanomaterials and materials with advanced properties will be developed. Following the inauguration, a demonstration of the technological capabilities of the centre took place. Aimplas has already 9,500m2 dedicated to R&D.

Americk Packaging has invested into a new dedicated facility offering a group resource located at its Wigan UK plant. The Innovation Centre covers all divisions of Americk Packaging which has recently been acquired by Saica Group.

The Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (“Thai Beverage”) is one of the largest beverage companies in Thailand and the ASEAN region. Thai Beverage has decided to set up its own PET-preform production and, as a result, its subsidiary BevTech Co., Ltd. invested PET-Line machine technology from Netstal. The contract signing ceremony took place in Bangkok.

Constantia Flexibles Group is optimising its film-based flexible packaging, manufacturing footprint in Europe by closing down its plant in Bucharest in Romania. The closure is expected to be finalised by July 2017 and will affect about 90 employees.

PET packaging company Petainer is focusing on the fast-growing micro and craft brewer markets in Spain and Portugal as part of its global expansion plans. The business has made a significant investment to ensure that it can support these key markets effectively and efficiently, and has appointed Dani Vall in Spain and Pedro Crispim in Portugal as the official distributors of petainerKeg.

PET packaging company Retal is setting up a plant for the North American beverage and food packaging market. Operating in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area, Retal PA LLC is eager to bring its expertise to the U.S. market. The plant will act as the regional headquarters and centre of excellence for R&D, with complete services from concept and design to delivery and support.

Mocon, Inc., a leading international provider of instruments and services for testing, measuring and analysing invisible gases, is announcing a name change for its Ringsted, Denmark-based subsidiary from Dansensor A/S to Mocon Europe A/S.

Husky Injection Molding Systems has announced it has been awarded with the Ringier Technology Innovation Award for its recently-introduced HyperSync system. HyperSync is the industry’s first fully integrated system for the manufacture of specialty closures, built to work together to provide synchronisation of mould and machine processes, performance and speed. The Technology Innovation Award, presented to Husky on March 9th during an award ceremony in Shanghai, honours the HyperSync system for increasing productivity, improving product performance and effectiveness, and creating unique market opportunities.

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) announced that its Machinery Safety Standards Committee has published the new voluntary standard establishing requirements for the manufacture and use of injection moulding machines. The new standard aligns well with the European and draft ISO standards on this subject, making it easier for American manufacturers to compete with their counterparts abroad.

Plastic beverage bottles will find a new life in a new $62 million plant being built in Dallas, USA, as CarbonLite gets ready to add a second facility to process 100 million pounds of post-consumer PET plastic bottles with the use of 100% green power. Construction is underway in a brand new 230,000-square-foot facility located in the City of Dallas. Start-up is planned for the end of the second quarter 2017, according to Leon Farahnik, chairman and CEO of CarbonLite.

Petainer has announced that it has appointed Crusader as its UK distributor for petainerKeg. Brett Lamont, Sales Director Distribution at Petainer said: “The appointment of Crusader as our UK distributor is another important step in building our global network of distribution partners for our products. We have chosen Crusader because they understand the brewery market very well and recognise that there is a huge opportunity for one-way PET kegs.”

With the recent expiry of their business relationship with Ferromatik Milacron Benelux BV, Milacron has announced a comprehensive direct sales and service infrastructure for the Benelux market to be in place since January 1, 2017.

With immediate effect the KHS Group’s production sites are now certified according to the new, revised ISO 9001:2015 standard. The current 2015 standard replaces the ISO 9001:2008 norm previously in widespread use. The KHS factory in Ahmedabad in India has been awarded the certificate for the first time.

International Beverages Private Limited, a division of The Coca Cola Company, inaugurated a new plant in Bangladesh as part of a planned $74 million investment in the country on January 18. Coca-Cola previously announced investments in Bangladesh of $74 million through 2020. Additional investments have supported infrastructure improvements, route-to-market enhancements and marketing programs.

The producer of bottling plants and packaging machines SMI is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The group’s origins date back to the mid-‘70s, when Luigi Nava set up a machine shop in San Pellegrino Terme, Italy. In the beginning the activity of the craftsman’s small enterprise was dedicated to machine finishings for third parties. Some years later this activity was enlarged to include the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment employed in the bottling and packaging lines of the beverage industry.

Agthia Group, a food and beverage group in the UAE, has signed a purchase agreement for 100% of the shares in the water business of Delta Marketing Company, based in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia producing “Al Ain” brand water. The transaction is expected to be completed by Quarter 1, 2017, following regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

Unilever committed to ensuring that all of its plastic packaging is fully reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 as it called on the entire fast-moving consumer goods industry to accelerate progress towards the circular economy.

Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Group has announced that it has officially transferred ownership to the Dutch based private equity firm, Egeria. This follows the announcement in September that Egeria had signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Group from an affiliate of Warburg Pincus.

The Technical University in Berlin is supplementing its laboratory facilities with the latest kegging technology from KHS. The new Innokeg AF1C1 for the semi-automatic processing of kegs (smaller barrels for the hospitality trade and industry), which was presented for the first time at this year’s BrauBeviale trade show, will give the university plenty of scope for application.
