Five winners trail blaze successful plastics recycling innovation — The winners of the first Plastics Recycling Awards Europe were announced yesterday at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe, held at the RAI Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

Amcor has announced the expansion of its injection blow molding (IBM) and extrusion blow molding (EBM) capabilities for the production of healthcare, food and home and personal care packaging. The company has invested in the Jet series all-electric IBM platform from Meccanoplastica Group, Florence, Italy and the KBB series all-electric EBM platform from Kautex Maschinenbau, Bonn, Germany.

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS), producers of NPE2018: The Plastics Show announced a 100-percent waste diversion goal for this year’s NPE, which will welcome more than 65,000 plastics professionals to the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando, (Fl) from May 7-11, 2018. The goal demonstrates the association’s commitment to sustainability and aims to exceed the 87 percent of waste that was diverted from NPE2015.

Dear reader,

An Editour usually begins with a market overview interspersed with figures and background information, followed by a thoughtful look into the future. This time, by contrast, I found myself sitting in front of a blank screen because I had no idea what I should be writing about. The tour has been going on for some weeks now, the NPE show is almost upon us and we still do not have a clear picture of what is happening in the US drinks’ industry. At our editorial meeting, we joked about how to fill the required number of pages. Some not too serious suggestions ranged from "simply leaving them blank" to "colouring pictures".

Nevertheless, what follows are a few pages that serve as an introduction to the USA (see page 22) which I hope you will find interesting, even if what I have written is different from my usual style. My writer’s block was due to my inability to work out just what is going on in the USA at the moment, with increasingly critical voices being raised against plastics, accompanied by fanciful PET recycling quotas, punitive tariffs on packaging material and components, water shortages and contaminated drinking water in many parts of America. ...
