British health food brand Press is selling its cold-pressed juices in a new container called Eco Bottle. This is made from 75% rPET and 25% bio plastic (made from sugar cane rather than fossil fuels).
The company states that they were chosing PET over glass for several reasons. Firstly, to ensure the best tasting and most nutrient dense juices they use chilled High-Pressure Processing (HPP). If they were to switch to glass, they would have to heat pasteurise the juices, and the concept of “cold-pressed” and the benefits would be gone. In addition they value the significantly lower carbon footprint of the Eco Bottle.
