Integrated packaging solutions leader Pro Mach, Inc. announced it has acquired global high-speed labelling solutions provider P.E. Labellers SpA. The addition of Italy-based P.E. Labellers is intended to expand Pro Mach’s capabilities to provide high-speed decorative labelling and integrated solutions worldwide. All global subsidiaries and management teams of P.E. Labellers join the Pro Mach team. Bruno Negri, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of P.E. Labellers, along with Nicola Schinelli, Vice Chairman of P.E. Labellers, will continue to lead the P.E. Labellers team, spanning over 400 employees across the world.

The City of Buenos Aires, in partnership with San Diego-based CP Group, opened an advanced recycling system in Argentina. The new 10 TPH residential single stream recycling system began running last October in Villa Soldati, a neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. Since then it has helped the city achieve its sustainability goals.

Spectra have reported an increase in customers using their Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials for their packaging. The company has made great strides in providing environmental alternatives for brands seeking a sustainable outcome, with PCR orders growing rapidly according to Gavin Chenery, Commercial Director at Spectra.

Amut Ecotech, Recycling Division of Amut Group, has supplied for Edwa city of Minya Governorate, Egypt a municipal solid waste recycling facility for the management of recyclable materials. The plant is planned to go into operation by June 2017.

Greiner Packaging is establishing a joint venture with the Russian company Plastic System which serves the market under the Souzpromplast brand. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. ( “SHI”) and its subsidiary Izumi Food Machinery Co., Ltd. have established a beverage machinery related joint venture company with Germany-based Krones AG to develop the Asia region. Through the establishment of this joint venture company, SHI Group aims to capitalise on the know-how and supply chain of Krones and accelerate the development of its beverage machinery business in the Asia region.

Following a global launch at Interpack 2017, Gebo Cermex’ CareSelect bottle infeed system has won the ‘Modular Machines’ category of the ‘Best Future Machine Award’ sponsored by Rockwell Automation. CareSelect is a patented universal and modular shaped-bottle infeed and collating system for robotic or traditional case packers, powered by Rockwell Automation’s iTRAK technology.

Nissei ASB Machine Co., Ltd. a leading manufacturer of PET and plastic bottle stretch blow moulding machines, will be conducting daily live moulding demonstration of its ASB-12M model, the latest iteration of the smallest class of machines produced by the company, that can trace their ancestry back to the early 1980s. Despite the small size of the machine, it has a vast range of capabilities for production of all types of PET containers including highly efficient light-weight bottles, all the way through to premium brand heavy-weight cosmetic containers of the highest quality.

1Blow will present its 2-cavity machine type 2LO that is capable of producing all types of PET bottles between 150ml and 2,5 litres: round, square, oval, off-centred, with or without neck orientation, for cold and hot fill applications. All options are directly available on a new machine or as an upgrade at a later stage. Consequently, 1Blow customers are free to adapt their equipment and their investment to the real needs of their markets.

Equipment and process technology specialist Sipa will point the spotlight at its expertise in speciality PET containers at interpack. It will have a single-cavity SFL 1 XL stretch-blow moulding machine making large bottles fitted in-line.

But today I’d like to talk about the second life of a PET bottle. For those who do not know, an old PET bottle can become a car oil bottle in the garage, or the bottle with fine holes in its lid becomes a spritz bottle for ironing or watering plants.
