Husky Injection Molding Systems demonstrates two complete integrated closure systems. The recently introduced HyCAP 4 system for beverage closure manufacturing comes with more machine, mould and auxiliary integration to offer increased productivity, energy efficiency and a simplified operator experience. The HyCAP 4 is running a 1.25 gram 29/25 closure for a mineral water application at a 2.4 second cycle time. For the first time, the company also demonstrates its new system solution for the manufacture of specialty closures, HyperSync.
SMI presents its rotary blow moulder series EBS (Electronic Blowing System) Ergon at K show. The series includes seven models, from 4 to 16 cavities, suitable for the production of PET containers up to 3 litres. The company states that the maximum output is of 2,300 bph per cavity for the 0.5 litre format (still water). Furthermore there are three HC models, from 3 to 6 cavities, for the production of containers up to 10 litres, with a maximum output of 1,200 bph per cavity for the 5 litre format.
Cooperation between NGR and Kuhne is raising the level of quality for direct production of food-grade PET sheets made of skeleton scrap, sheet production scrap or PET bottle flakes. The integrated system consists of a shredder-feeder-extruder combination for producing plastic melt, the P:React unit for improving the quality of PET and the sheet system from Kuhne for producing PET sheets with tightest tolerances. Both PET sheet producers and thermoformed part manufacturers will benefit from the result.
In-Mould labels company Verstraete will, in the coming months, start preparing the construction work for the new production site in Clarksville, Tennessee (US), together with its parent company Constantia Flexibles. For most PET converters, the overall market is growing whereas average bottle quantities per contract are getting smaller. This means a variety of different orders have to be produced within the same time frame, for example to include different neck types. To meet such demanding circumstances, increased flexibility is the only way forward.
For the first time at the Düsseldorf fair the compact line with the 24-cavity CCM compression press synchronised with the cap anti-tamper band slitter will be presented. The Colorarcap cap digital printing solution has now reached a higher level of development that allows coloured caps to be decorated too, thus exploring what some consider being the final frontier of digital decoration: unlimited colour development, ultra-high definition, yet also flexibility to ensure the right response whatever the customer’s production/promotional needs.

Other innovations on display will include a new FLX-128 Plus conveying control, which now can be set up to operate the R-PRO system, a new Mobile Drying/Conveying (MDC) system with standard colour touchscreen control interface, and several examples of equipment from Conair’s auxiliaries.
Kreyenborg Plant Technology GmbH, based in Senden, Germany will be putting particular focus this year on a range of topics regarding drying and crystallising, as well as comprehensive solutions for bulk-material handling processes. The Infrared Rotary Dryers IRD is used for crystallising and drying virgin or regrind materials for a number of plastics, including PET. The K fair is just around the corner. It is of interest to everyone involved in the world of plastics, and thus also to PET, which leads us smoothly to the world of beverages. Whilst many areas of the plastic industry are growing, the supplier landscape for PET bottle fillers is stagnating at a high level. There are numerous reasons for this. On the one hand, in countries such as China there is serious overcapacity, causing sales of machines and plants to collapse. Europe has been stagnant for years, with any investment going towards replacing machinery. South America seems to swing constantly from feast to famine. Investments in North America are going primarily to large water bottlers, who dominate the mass market. India struggles to realise its full potential, whilst in developing African countries, investment hotspots are few and far between. ...
